The new bridge of Thessaloniki airport will join with the existing bridge connecting the old and new terminal buildings. The bridge has a total length of 325m and is divided in three sections. The approach ramp section (99m) is on a curve and comprises precast prestressed beams of variable length (13m-17m) on piers. The central section (153m) is on straight line and comprises precast prestressed beams (17m) on piers. The section connecting the old and new bridge (73m) is on curve with variable width and comprises 3-column frames. This section is constructed in 2 phases at the location of the demolished part of existing bridge. The foundation of bridge is on bored piles. The design ensured that along the construction process the existing bridge would be functional. Structural verification of the existing bridge with a modified structural system (half-section) was carried out aiming at demolishing part of the bridge until the construction of the new one. Detailed design was performed for the bridge. The project is completed.
